Removal of radioactive materials, via railroad cars, from the Newfield site continues. As of May 1, 304 railcars of material have been shipped from the site. Removal of this material is in compliance with the Decommissioning Plan approved by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) in early 2017.
While material is being removed for off-site disposal daily, Shieldalloy and its qualified contractors continue to prepare and package material to ensure the regular and efficient loading of the rail cars.
Deemed an essential project under New Jersey’s current Executive Orders, Shieldalloy and its qualified contractors continue to operate during the COVID-19 coronavirus public health emergency. All workers are equipped with personal protective equipment and are observing all guidelines set forth by the CDC.
